Healthy Grilled Salmon Recipe with Sweet Potatoes & Asparagus

Jump to Recipe ↓

Grilled salmon with asparagus and sweet potatoes is a delicious and healthy recipe that can help reduce inflammation. Salmon is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids known for their anti-inflammatory properties. Asparagus is rich in antioxidants and fiber, while sweet potatoes provide vitamins A and C, essential for a healthy immune system. This dish is nutritious, easy to prepare, and perfect for a balanced meal.

Nutritional Highlights

This meal combines salmon, asparagus and sweet potatoes to provide protein, unsaturated fats, fiber, vitamins and minerals. Salmon supplies protein and omega-3 fatty acids, while asparagus and sweet potatoes contribute fiber and other nutrients.

Sweet potatoes contain carbohydrates, so portion size matters for anyone monitoring blood glucose. A serving of approximately ½ to ¾ cup can be paired with salmon and asparagus as part of a balanced meal. Individual responses vary, and this recipe is not a treatment for insulin resistance or any medical condition.

To optimize for insulin resistance:

  • Keep the sweet potato portion to ½–¾ cup cooked per serving
  • Roast them with skin on for extra fiber (if you prefer)

This is an insulin resistance-friendly recipe, especially if sweet potato portions are balanced. It’s rich in protein, healthy fats, fiber, and anti-inflammatory ingredients.

  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  2. Grill the salmon fillets for 4–5 minutes per side, depending on their thickness. The salmon should reach an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) at its thickest point, or the flesh should be opaque and separate easily with a fork. FoodSafety.gov recommends 145°F (63°C) for fish.

Tips for Grilling Salmon

  • Pat the salmon dry before adding the marinade so it cooks more evenly.
  • Preheat the grill before adding the fish.
  • If the fillets have skin, begin with the skin side facing down.
  • Avoid moving the salmon repeatedly while it cooks because this can cause it to break.
  • Use a fish spatula and turn each fillet only once.
  • Let the salmon rest for two to three minutes before serving.
